Employee threatened with knife during robbery: police

One person has been charged with robbery after police say an employee at a local business reported being threatened with a knife on Friday evening.

The accused was in possession of a knife at the time of their arrest that matched the description provided by the victim, says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Full text of the release follows:

On Aug. 18, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 31-year-old Michael McDonald with robbery.

Around 6 p.m., 911 communicators received a report of a robbery at a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road. The caller stated a person had threatened an employee with a knife while asking them to open a cash register.

Officers were dispatched to the area and located someone matching the description of the suspect in the 300 block of McNabb Street. The suspect was identified as the accused, and they were arrested. A subsequent search found them to be in possession of a knife matching the description given by the victim.

The accused is charged with:
    •    robbery

The accused was held in custody pending a Weekend and Statutory Holiday court hearing before being released on bail.
