Two people found passed out in a car on Canada Day morning are facing drug charges.

On July 1 around 8 a.m., Sault police responded to a disturbance call in the 700 block of Wellington Street East, where they discovered a man and a woman “unresponsive” in a vehicle.

Officers woke the driver, who they say appeared to be intoxicated. He refused a screening test.

Police say a search of the driver uncovered a scale, packaging material, and multiple substances believed to be drugs: nine grams of fentanyl, 11 grams of methamphetamine and four grams of cocaine.

The female passenger was carrying a small amount of fentanyl, police allege.

Charles Carricato, 48, is charged with:

  • Possession for Purpose of Trafficking x3
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and/or Drug
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Bodily Substance Screening Demand

Alyssa Daynard, 24, is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance.

Both were released on an appearance notice and are scheduled back in court on August 28, 2023.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and both are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
