Driver reportedly asleep in vehicle accused of being impaired

A 39-year-old has been charged with impaired driving after Sault Ste. Marie Police were told someone was asleep inside a running vehicle.

Police were called to a parking lot outside a business in the 600 block of Trunk Road at around 4 a.m. Wednesday. 

Arriving officers say they found the vehicle partially parked atop a snowbank on a curb.

After speaking with the driver, the officers suspected they may be impaired by alcohol.

“A search of the vehicle located three open containers of alcohol and a quantity of cannabis,” said police in a news release. “A search of the accused located a cannabis vaporizer.”

“The accused was transported to the Police Services Building where they provided multiple breath samples, all of which registered above the legal limit.”

Tyler Davey was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Have Care of Control of Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis in Open Original Packaging (under the Cannabis Control Act)
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available (under the Cannabis Control Act)
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor (under the Liquor Licence and Control Act)

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
