Driver in three-vehicle crash that took young woman's life faces traffic charge

City police say the driver of one of three pickup trucks involved in a deadly Sept. 6 collision on Wallace Terrace now faces a charge of careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act.

26-year-old Mikayla Ouellet, who was pregnant at the time of the crash, died at the scene, police have said. 

The driver who was charged has been identified as a 32-year-old Sault Ste. Marie resident. Police do not release the names of those charged with provincial offences, which includes charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Officers in Traffic Services have charged a 32-year-old Sault Ste. Marie resident with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act in relation to a fatal collision that took place on September 6, 2023.

The collision involved three vehicles: two pickup trucks and a delivery van. One of the pickup truck drivers, 26-year-old Mikayla Ouellet, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, which was travelling eastbound when it struck the other two vehicles, has been charged with careless driving causing death.
