Police say a driver who was spotted going the wrong way on three streets early Saturday has been charged with impaired driving.

Sault Ste. Marie Police officers first spotted a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction in a one-way section of Queen Street East at around 1:50 a.m.

After that, officers say the driver went the wrong way in a one-way section of Pim Street, then Bay Street.

Once they pulled the driver over, the officers suspected the driver was impaired by alcohol.

An individual was brought into the Police Services Building where police say multiple breath samples registered above the legal limit.

Curvel Mitchell, 40, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
