A single-vehicle crash on Old Garden River Road on Thursday has led to impaired charges for a 24-year-old driver.
Around 7 p.m., officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to the crash, which happened in the 1200 block of Old Garden River Road.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle in the ditch and began speaking with an individual they learned was the driver.
Police say the officers developed grounds to believe that the driver was impaired. The accused provided multiple breath samples, all of which registered above the legal limit.
As a result, Amanda Chiarello has been charged with:
- operation while impaired – drug and/or alcohol
- operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80+)
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 9.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
