On Feb. 22, Sault Police officers charged a 24-year-old man after a hit and run occurred at around 10:40 p.m.

A 911 caller reported a motor vehicle collision in the area of Second Line West and Goulais Avenue.

The caller said a vehicle struck another vehicle and drove away. When officers located a vehicle matching the description, they conducted a traffic stop on St. George’s Avenue.

“Upon speaking with the driver, who was identified as the accused, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol,” police said in a news release.

“The accused provided a breath sample into an approved screening device, which registered as a fail.”

Liam Myles-Richards was arrested. He was transported to the Police Services Building where he provided two additional breath samples, both of which registered above the legal limit.

Myles-Richards is charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Fail to Remain (under the Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on March 24.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Myles-Richards is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
