Sault Police have arrested and charged Donald Cory following an incident that occurred Sunday evening.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that at 6:23 p.m., officers responded to the area of Spring Street and Albert Street East to investigate a single motor vehicle collision.

A man, later identified as the accused, was seen lying on the ground near the vehicle in question when officers arrived on-scene.

It is alleged that Cory was in possession of a green substance suspected to be fentanyl, the release states.

The 27-year-old was transported to hospital for treatment, and officers believe he was impaired by drugs.

"While informing the accused of the charges he became agitated, spitting at officers and threatening them before officers were able to gain control of the accused," the news release states.

Cory is scheduled to appear in court on Jan 11 to face the following charges:
    •    impaired driving
    •    failing to comply with a demand
    •    possession of a controlled substance
    •    resisting or obstructing a peace officer
    •    five counts of uttering threats
    •    driving while suspended
