A 19-year-old faces impaired charges stemming from an incident that occurred over the weekend.

In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie police say they responded to a call around 8:45 p.m. Saturday evening after a vehicle was seen hitting a guardrail before parking at a business in the 1200 block of Trunk Road.

When they arrived, police say they found the driver asleep behind the wheel and after waking them up, determined the accused was impaired by alcohol.

Police say the accused failed two breath tests, and as a result, Dale Pittendrigh-Armstrong was arrested and faces multiple charges.

For more information, including the list of charges, see the full release below:

On July 16, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 19-year-old Dale Pittendrigh-Armstrong with operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug.

Around 8:45 p.m. officers responded to a call of a possible impaired driver on Trunk Road, which struck a guardrail, and that the vehicle turned into a business and parked in the 1200 block of Trunk Road. Upon arrival officers located the vehicle and observed someone sleeping in the front seat. Officers woke up the person and identified them as the accused.

Officers developed grounds to believe the accused’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed the accused is a novice driver, which requires them to drive with a zero-blood alcohol concentration, and the accused was in possession of two driver’s licences with their name on it.

The accused later provided two breathe samples into an approved device, registering two fail results.

The accused is charged with,

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and/or Drug
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Fail to Remain – Under Highway Traffic Act
  • Possession More Than One Licence – Under Highway Traffic Act
  • Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero – Under Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 26, 2022.
