Crash with hydro pole leads to impaired driving charges

Following a collision involving a hydro pole on Northern Avenue on Friday morning, police have charged a 21-year-old driver with impaired driving.

Full text of a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service follows:

On May 27, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 21-year-old Ava Headrick with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80+).

Around 12 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision in the 0-100 block of Northern Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle which had struck a hydro pole. Officers identified the driver as the accused and developed grounds to believe her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

She was arrested and later provided two samples into an approved device, registering fail results each time. She is charged with impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration (80+).

She was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on July 25, 2022.
