Sault Police used tasers yesterday to arrest a woman who allegedly hit officers with a broomstick and threatened to kill them.

The incident occurred Tuesday at around 10 a.m., when police were dispatched to a disturbance call at a multi-unit building in the 200 block of Second Line West.

When officers arrived, police say they encountered the suspect in a common area. She had a warrant out for her arrest in connection with an incident two days earlier, when someone kicked and damaged a door in the same building.

When told she was under arrest, the woman allegedly ran to her unit and “tried to prevent officers from entering by blocking the door, hitting them with a broomstick, and verbally threatening to kill them,” says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

“Officers gained control of the accused using tasers and they were arrested,” the release continues.

Melinda Robinson, 30, is charged with:

  • Assault Peace Officer with Weapon
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Mischief – Under $5,000

Robinson is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
