An accused drug trafficker is behind bars after local police seized a huge stash of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine.

The bust began Monday at around 6 p.m., when officers arrested a man in the 700 block of Queen Street East who was allegedly carrying one gram of meth and $2,283.30 in cash.

Detectives then executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the 700 block of Wellington Street East, where police say they found $21,675 worth of illicit drugs — including 78 grams of suspected fentanyl, 45 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 14 grams of suspected cocaine.

Jason Gilbert, 40, is charged with:

  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking x3
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Gilbert is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
