Collision leads to vehicle theft charges

Emergency crews were in the 300 block of Farwell Terrace Saturday morning after a single-vehicle collision left residents in the area without power.

A collision on the 300 block of Farwell Terrace on Saturday led to vehicle theft charges.

Sault Ste. Marie Police responded to a call reporting a vehicle on its side around 8:20 a.m. on Sept. 17.

The vehicle had hit a power pole, and the 27-year-old driver had fled the scene.

The driver was later located by police on Franklin Street and was detained for failing to remain at the scene of the collision.

The vehicle was later determined to be stolen, and the driver had been prohibited from driving.

Police have charged Jesse Thorne with:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operation While Prohibited x4
  • Fail to Remain – Under the Highway Traffic Act
  • Driving While Under Suspension - Under the Highway Traffic Act x2

The accused was held in custody pending an appearance at WASH court.
