The city is warning of a scam circulating in Sault Ste. Marie.

It says people are getting emails and text messages requesting payment for parking tickets.

“These fraudulent messages may contain links or demand immediate payment,” the city said in a news release.

Parking tickets are not issued via text or email.

“Official parking tickets are placed on the vehicle or mailed to the registered owner," the city added.

"Payments should only be made through official city processes, such as in person at City Hall or online through the City Apps portal."

Anyone receiving a suspicious message is warned to not click on any links or provide personal or financial information.
