UPDATE: One injured in Dennis Street house fire

Ontario Fire Marshall is now investigating the blaze across the street from Station Mall

One person was injured last night in a downtown house fire that is now under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal.

As SooToday reported Thursday night, emergency crews were called to the home at the corner of Dennis and Bay streets shortly before 8 p.m.

“Upon arrival, there was visible smoke and flames from the structure,” says a news release issued today by Sault Fire Services. “Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire.”

PUC Inc. and Enbridge Gas also attended the scene, which was directly across from Station Mall. Police had Bay Street blocked at Tancred Street and Dennis Street was blocked between Bay and Queen streets.

“There is significant fire and smoke damage to the dwelling,” the release continues. “There was a reported injury from the incident. EMS attended the scene.”

The news release does not disclose specifics about the injury.

“The Ontario Fire Marshal was called to attend and will be investigating the incident. There are no further details to provide at this time.”

SooToday will provide updates when they are available.
