Sault Police have charged a British Columbia driver refusing to comply with a breath demand after it was suspected he was driving while impaired.

Police say on Sunday around 12:55 a.m., officers observed a vehicle driving left of the centre lane on North Street.

Police say they conducted a traffic stop and developed grounds to believe the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

Officers requested the accused to provide breath samples but he refused, police say.

Further investigation revealed he was a suspended driver.

As a result, 39-year-old Adam Kilpatrick of West Kelowna, British Columbia was arrested and charged with refusing to comply with a demand, operation while prohibited and driving while under suspension.

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 9, 2021.
