A 28-year-old man faces weapons charges after Sault Ste. Marie Police discovered a suspected explosive device in his pocket.
The accused has been charged with making or possession of explosives for unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.
A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police service reports that officers responded to the 1000 block Peoples Road early Tuesday evening to investigate an unwanted person call.
After speaking with the accused, officers offered him a ride home. The device was discovered as the accused was searched as a safety precaution prior to him entering the cruiser.
Emergency Services Unit and Explosive Disposal Unit immediately responded to the scene, the device was removed from the area and safely disposed of.
The release states that the suspected explosive device contained BBs and a fuse, but no explosive materials.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court Sept, 16.
