Arrest made after police say break-in victims were threatened with knife

Police have arrested Justin St. Amour after it is alleged that on July 31 the 39-year-old accused broke into an Albert Street East residence, threatened victims with a knife, and stole money from them.

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service also states that the accused "struck one of the victims in the chest with a curtain rod before fleeing the area."

On July 31, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 39-year-old Justin St. Amour with assault with a weapon.

It is alleged around 6:55 a.m., two victims woke up to find the accused inside their residence in the 300 block of Albert Street East. While inside the residence, [it is alleged that] the accused damaged some property, stole approximately $600 in Canadian currency, threatened the victims with a knife and a screwdriver, then struck one of the victims in the chest with a curtain rod before fleeing the area.

Police were called and officers located the accused as he was leaving the residence. Officers observed the accused holding a knife and he was arrested. A subsequent search found him to be in possession of the money [allegedly] stolen from the victims.

He is charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, break and enter, and theft under $5,000.

He was held for bail court. During the bail hearing he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12, 2021.
