Arrest made after counterfeit $100 bill gets stuck in change machine

On June 14, 2020, officers with Patrol Services arrested 33-year-old Gerald Martel for uttering counterfeit money.

It is alleged on Feb. 7, 2020, the accused attended a business in the 100 block of Queen Street East and attempted to use a counterfeit $100 U.S.A. bill to get change. The bill became lodged in the machine. The accused spoke with an attendant who advised a supervisor would be able to retrieve the bill at a later time.

When the bill was retrieved later, it was discovered to be counterfeit and police were notified.

The accused was located on June 14, 2020 and arrested. He is charged with uttering counterfeit money and breach of probation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 24, 2020.
