Accused broke into residence while victim was asleep: police

Police say the 42-year-old broke in while the victim was sleeping, causing causing damage to the property, and left once the victim phoned police

A 42-year faces charges stemming from an incident that took place last week.

In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie Police say around 4:20 a.m. on Feb. 26, 911 communicators received a report of a break and enter at a unit within a multi-unit residence building in the 500 block of Albert Street West.

Upon investigation, police determined the accused had broken into the unit of someone known to them while the victim was asleep, causing damage to the property, and left once the victim phoned police.

Officers located the accused, and as a result, Donald Larente was arrested and charged with:

  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order x2
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court
  • Mischief – Under $5,000

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Larente is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
