47-year-old arrested during high-risk takedown on Frontenac Street

Man wanted on outstanding warrant faces numerous firearms charges

Sault Police arrested Vincent Schiele during a high-risk takedown on Frontenac Street last evening.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 47-year-old was wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to a weapons incident that occurred on Wellington Street East on July 10.

Schiele was remanded into custody and stands charged with numerous weapons related offences.

Full text of the news release follows:

On Aug 16., 2021 officers with Patrol Services and Investigation Services charged 47-year-old Vincent Schiele with firearm offences.

On July 10, 2021, [it is alleged that] the accused attended a residence in the 1300 block of Wellington Street East. While at the residence, a verbal argument ensued between the accused and the victim. At this time, it is alleged the accused pulled a black handgun from his waistband and began waving it around during the argument. The accused left the residence a short time later.

The incident was reported and officers attended and began an investigation. As a result of the investigation, a warrant was requested and issued for the accused’s arrest for numerous firearm offences.

On Aug. 16, 2021 around 7:30 p.m., officers located the accused in the 700 block of Frontenac Street. Due to the nature of the warrant in place, and in the interest of public safety, officers contained the area. With the area contained, officers observed the accused attempt to flee the area on foot. A short foot pursuit ensued and officers successfully executed a high-risk takedown and arrest.

He is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and failing to comply with a judicial release order by being in possession of a weapon.

He was held for bail court. There he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 18, 2021.
