A 41-year-old faces numerous charges stemming from an incident that took place on Tuesday.

In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie police say officers responded to a call around 1:20 p.m. about a driver in a parking lot in the 100 block of Churchill Boulevard who had gotten out of their vehicle to visit a business and appeared to be impaired.

"Upon arrival, officers located the driver. After speaking to them, police say they determined the accused was impaired by drugs," police said in a news release.

The accused was transported to the Police Services Building where they were evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The evaluation confirmed the accused was under the influence of drugs.

As a result, Steven Waboose of Batchewana, Ont., was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 24, 2025.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Waboose is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
