Early Monday morning, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 36-year-old man with operation while impaired and dangerous operation.

At around 3:30 a.m., a 911 caller reported a motor vehicle collision near Shannon Road and Riverside Drive.

“It was reported a truck travelling at a high rate of speed had driven over a snowbank, through a guard rail, and onto a walking trail. Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they located the truck as described,” police said in a news release.

Upon speaking with the driver, who was outside the truck attempting to remove it from the snowbank, officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

Police arrested the man. He provided multiple breath samples into an approved screening device, all of which registered above the legal limit.

Dustin Bouchard is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Dangerous Operation

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 13, 2025.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Bouchard is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
