Earlier today, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 28-year-old woman with theft, unauthorized use of a credit card, and 37 other offences.
On Aug. 25, 2024, a 911 caller reported the theft of a wallet from a vehicle in the 200 block of Great Northern Road.
An investigation revealed that someone made two purchases at a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road using a stolen credit card and three purchases at a business in the 300 block of McNabb Street using a stolen debit card.
Police said the victim had messaged the accused online requesting the return of their property, and the accused attempted to extort the victim for money. The victim and the accused are not known to one another.
On Dec. 16, officers located and arrested the accused.
Alicia Mancino is charged with:
- Extortion
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000 x2
- Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle
- Use of Credit Card x5
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order x29
- Failure to Attend for Fingerprints – As Per Undertaking
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court and Mancino is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
