Officers with the Patrol Services unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a teen on Friday following the report of an altercation earlier in the week.

On July 19, police received a report of multiple young people involved in an altercation, with weapons potentially involved, in the 200 block of Bay Street.

The altercation was over when police arrived and the suspect reported to have weapons had left the scene.

Police say that witnesses identified the accused and reported that they had got out of a vehicle and ran at the victims with a large knife. The victims suffered minor injuries as a result.

Witnesses said the suspect also kicked a vehicle, causing damage, and threatened the victims by referring to a gun.

Police attempted to locate the suspect at the time, but were unsuccessful.

On July 21, the accused turned themselves in at the Police Services building and were arrested and charged with:

  • assault with a weapon (x4)
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • uttering threats (x4)
  • mischief under $5,000
  • failure to comply with sentence (x3)

The accused was held for Weekend and Statutory Holiday court and subsequently released and is scheduled to appear in court in August.
