Known for its power, the Turbo Beaver required design changes (lengthened nose, larger vertical tail, etc.) to accommodate the power and relative lightness of the Pratt & Whitney turbine engine. It was mainly used for hauling cargo or passengers, and crop-dusting. Almost one third of the sixty turbine-powered Beavers built were purchased by the Ontario Provincial Air Service. The CBHC’s Turbo Beaver was the prototype aircraft built by Peter St. Martin and the registration is made up of his initials in his honour: CF-PSM. At under $250, “ownership” of this lithe bushplane is a bargain compared to the 1960s purchase price of $253,000!
