This 7.5ft. Pre-Lit Piedmont Fir Christmas Tree with LED Lights by CANVAS allows you to embark on a poignant journey through time with Community Living Algoma (CLA) at the "Illuminate the Season with ARCH" event. Our tree, "The Future is Inclusive, The Future is Now," is more than a festive spectacle; it is a testament to the empowering spirit of inclusion and citizenship that has shaped our community.
In 1954, a humble seed was planted in the heart of Sault Ste. Marie, in conjunction with Wawa, Hornepayne, Elliot Lake, and Blind River Ontario. This partnership marked the inception of what would later become Community Living Algoma. Born from the determination of families and friends, the organization initially sought to challenge the restrictive norms that denied education to children with developmental disabilities. Like many stories of resilience, this grassroots movement took root, growing into an unwavering commitment to inclusion, dignity, and choice for all.
Our Mission, Vision, and Values: Guided by our Mission Statement—supporting people with intellectual disabilities—and our Vision Statement—"All People Belong, Join the Journey," Community Living Algoma's journey has been marked by passion, dedication, and the unwavering belief that everyone deserves personal dignity and the chance to reach their full potential.
Looking Ahead to 2024: As we approach our 70th anniversary, we reflect on our roots, nourished by the dedication of families, the tireless work of our staff, and the resilience of the people we support. In 2024, we not only commemorate seven decades of service but also renew our commitment to realizing the goals set forth by those visionary leaders. Our journey continues, and with each passing year, we aspire to build a community where all individuals, regardless of ability, find their place, their purpose, and their home.
Our Tree's Story: Crafted with love, our tree echoes the resilience of a community that continues to advocate and educate. It is adorned with handmade decorations from individuals in our community and those supported by CLA, each piece telling a unique story of inclusion, creativity, and progress. Nestled among the branches of our tree, you'll find an array of homes—some apartments, others houses. Each one is a microcosm of the vibrant communities that dot the landscape of Algoma. These homes symbolize the diverse tapestry of life, each thread contributing to the rich narrative of inclusion and belonging. Look closer, and you'll notice a radiant garland encircling our tree. Adorned with unique ornaments, each depicting a person, this garland is a celebration of identity and diversity. Every ornament represents the beautiful mosaic of Algoma's residents, reflecting the myriad of backgrounds, cultures, and stories that make our community truly special. As you explore our tree, you'll witness not just a collection of homes and ornaments but a testament to the unity that springs from embracing our differences. The garland weaves around the core of what truly matters—identity, inclusion, and community. It's a visual hymn to the idea that, like the diverse homes and ornaments, we are better together. Through this display, we celebrate the profound value of community and inclusion. Just as the homes on our tree coexist harmoniously, so do the communities within Algoma. In every shared moment, every exchanged smile, and every act of kindness, we see the true essence of belonging—where all people, regardless of differences, find a place to call home.
"The Future is Inclusive - The Future is Now." Our tree beckons you to reflect on the beauty of unity, the strength in diversity, and the boundless possibilities when all people belong. It's not just a festive display; it's a testament to the enduring spirit of togetherness that defines our community and guides us toward a future where every home is a haven of acceptance, respect, and shared humanity.
Gifts that Echo Inclusion: Beneath the branches lies a treasure trove—a "The Future is Inclusive - The Future is Now" gift package and gift cards from local small businesses, each a token of our commitment to strengthening the ties that bind our community. This bundle is more than just items; it's a statement.
• Two adult black t-shirts
• two children's t-shirts
• two cozy blue toques
• two mugs—all bearing the resounding message that inclusivity isn't just a future goal; it's the essence of our present
The collective value of our tree, $320, mirrors the richness of our community. As we share this festive spirit, we're also supporting local businesses across the Algoma district with $160 in gift cards—a small gesture echoing a profound truth: that vibrant communities are built on collaboration and shared support.
Join us in celebrating not just the holiday season but the spirit of togetherness, acceptance, and the unwavering belief that, indeed, the future is now!
