The east coast duo Campbell and Johnston have never played in the Sault before, but are looking forward to it.
Currently on their Canadian tour, they will be making a stop at Soo Blaster on Thursday, June 1.
In 2022, Campbell and Johnston released the acclaimed Black Market Band album.
“We’re still riding the coattails of the first album,” laughs Christine Campbell, singer and guitar player for the duo.
“But we’re getting ready to release a [new] single in September and a new album next spring.”
That first album made a name for the duo.
It was the winner of “Blues Recording” of the Year at the 2022 East Coast Music Awards, an event they once again played this year.
“We did two showcases and a couple of different appearances [at the 2023 Award event],” says Campbell.
In addition to those two showcase performances at the ECMAs, Campbell was invited to perform at a legendary Canadian singer and songwriter’s special award ceremony.
“I played the April Wine tribute honouring Myles Goodwyn’s induction into the Canadian Hall of Fame,” says Campbell.
The event was a cap for Goodwyn’s 50+ year career, who recently announced his retirement from the much-beloved recording act.
At the Sault show, Campbell and Johnston will be joined on stage by three stellar local musicians Lindsay Pugh on bass, Cliff Alloy on drums, and Jeff Holmes on keys, to round out their sound.
The opening act for the evening will be local act Smokehouse, featuring Mike Yurich on guitar, vocals and keys, Steve Francis on bass, and Mark Mizzi on drums
