April 26, 1969 – April 15, 2024
Fern cherished his family the most and wrote these words about them, “think of waking up each day with a loving smile on your heart”. He leaves to mourn his beautiful children Christopher, Tierra (Travis), Gabrielle, Fernand O, Raven, Fernand M, Skyler and Daniel as well as many grandchildren. Fern is survived by his parents Marlene Simon (Sammy) and Gaston Vachon (Ruth), his 3 sisters Angelique (Michael), Christine, and Shawna, as well as his 4 brothers Schuyler (Sharon), Malcom, Allen, Marcus. Fern will be forever missed by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, a host of cousins and numerous friends across Turtle Island. He was good with animals and loved his fur babies. His cat Gwanaa will miss him.
Fern was a proud member of Serpent River First Nation and his indigenous heritage and actively pursued his culture and its teachings. He was a people person with an outgoing and magnetic personality. He made friends easily across Canada and the US having lived in both countries. Fern was artistic and loved to paint and carve wood. His artwork reflected his spiritual growth and his many interests. He enjoyed hunting and had excellent moose tracking skills. He also liked to fish and be outdoors in nature. We will forever miss Fern. He was a good son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Menard Funeral Home, 72 Lakeside Avenue, Blind River on Monday, April 22, 2024, between 1pm and 2pm.
