Sault gymnasts beaming after trip to Ontario championships

Five local gymnasts had strong showings at provincial event in Huntsville

A number of Sault Gymnastic Club athletes are coming off a successful weekend participating in the Ontario Gymnastics Championships.

A total of five athletes participated in the event, held in Huntsville, Ont. and the entire group had a strong showing, which included a pair of competitors grabbing top three finishes in individual events.

Nevaeh Alpha-Elie was the top finisher over the weekend.

In the Level 3, age 13 division, Alpha-Elie was crowned the bar champion. It was her highest bar score of the season and good enough for gold. 

Alpha-Elie also finished top 10 on all her events including bars (1st), vault (5th), beam (8th), floor (10th) and was 5th in the all-around.

In the same division, Madigan Hickey was named the silver medalist on the vault and also also had her top vault performance which got her the second podium finish.

Other results from the weekend include:

Level 3 - Age 13: Hickey - vault (2nd), bar (24th), beam (25th), floor (11th), all-around (22nd)

Level 3 - Age 14+: Emma Stewart - vault (13th), bar (18th), beam (17th), floor (12th), all-around (19th)

Level 4 - Age 15+: Caitlynn Shaganash - vault (4th), bar (6th), beam (13th), floor (16th), all-around (9th); Angel Unetic - vault (20th), bar (14th), beam (18th), floor (14th), all-around (19th)
