A flaming pickup truck in an east end driveway also caused damage to the outside of an adjacent garage and house, says Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services.
Platoon chief Stan Martynuck said multiple calls to 911 started coming in at 10:50 a.m., informing the fire services of a pickup truck on fire in a driveway on Boundary Road, near Centre Street.
They found the blaze coming from the engine compartment of the pickup truck.
12 firefighters extinguished the fire before flames could engulf the adjacent structures, but it still caused them damage.
“There’s been some radiant heat damage to the (house), as well as the detached garage and vehicle parked beside it,” said Martynuck.
Siding on the house and garage became warped due to the heat.
Union Gas is expected to attend the scene to determine if any damage was done to the gas meter, which is mounted on the house near where the fire occurred.
An inspector with the fire services will investigate the cause of the fire, says Martynuck.
