VIDEO: 'We are losing more than just a building'

Administrators of newly launched 'Save our YMCA' Facebook page organized a rally Monday afternoon outside the soon-to-be-shuttered McNabb Street facility

Dozens of local residents rallied outside the YMCA building yesterday — many still holding out hope something can be done to save the soon-to-be-shuttered facility.

Monday’s rally was organized by administrators of the "Save our YMCA" Facebook page, which was created in the wake of last week’s bombshell announcement that the Sault institution is closing down all programming next month.

Leaving behind a 125-year legacy in Sault Ste. Marie, the Y’s impending closure is expected to impact 169 jobs, 541 daycare spaces and around 2,800 memberships.
