Local punk rockers hit stage tonight at Soo Blaster

Vanity First has gone from the high school band to something quite different

Local punk rockers Vanity First will be at the Soo Blaster Saturday.

Vanity First started as a bunch of high school kids playing in the school band, soon discovering they had an appetite for something faster. Something harder.

Starting off with five members and going by the name "five angry women" playing Green Day covers in the garage, this soon narrowed down to just three: Bassist and lead singer Andrew Beggs, guitarist Mikhal Muto, and drummer Keegan McAllister.

By early 2022 leaving the pandemic with a six-song EP released of original material, Vanity First began playing shows all over the Sault and as far out as Harmony Beach, with no plans of taking a break anytime soon.

With their fast paced originals and 90s skate-punk covers, they're bringing back a scene that hasn't been present here for many years. And they'll hit the stage June 17 at Soo Blaster for what is expected to be a hard-driving show, says a news release.

Special guests Apocalypse Afterparty will take the stage first for their debut at Soo Blaster. The Apocalypse Afterparty is a husband and wife band composed of Paul and Amanda Stanghetta. They tend to focus on early 2000's vibes and sounds, and as such have a plethora of  covers from that same era. Their originals sound like they could be covers from that same era.

Guest appearances are common, and never include a guitar player. Known to collaborate with local DJ's and composers, the AA is always open to new collaborations and friends. Paul is a classically trained, conservatory musician. Amanda learned drums on the fly from exposure.

Tickets for this Saturdays show are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Sessions Cannabis, Soo Blaster and online.
