NEWS RELEASE
THE KNIGHTS
OF THE ALLOY
*************************
MILWAUKEE, WI - The Sault’s robotics team, The Knights of Alloy, hit the floor running well in the opening match of the Wisconsin Regional Friday morning, and scored very well in the opening seconds of the match.
Teamed with two other robots, their alliance of three went on to win the first match, by a score of 46-32, with the Knights scoring 32 of these points.
The second match saw the ADSB team drawing weak partners, who were unable to score a single point.
“Holly the Wickett ‘Bot” went off charging but was stuck in a traffic jam for much of the match.
Cody Lucente, the human shooter player, was able to score from the sidelines, and with one dump of the robot’s hopper, the total score was posted: a 48-38 loss, with the Knights posting 32 of the alliance’s points in the loss.
The Knight’s third match had the team draw another good scoring partner and the two of them went on to dominate with a 78-41 win, with the Knights scoring 40 of the points.
So, going into the lunch break, team 1535 was sitting in a healthy 15th place overall in the 54-team field, with a very respectable average score of 35 points per game.
The fourth match of the day was a struggle with two weak alliance partners and tough opposition.
The Alloy drivers were a bit tentative and missed two golden scoring opportunities but scored one hopper-load late in the match.
However, our human loader took a 10-point penalty for touching a game ball too early.
The match went as expected, with the team taking a 77-36 loss to stand at 2-2 for the day.
Match 5 had the Knights of Alloy running more aggressively and matched with good partners.
Doing their share, the Knights ran two full dumps, missing on the first attempt but scoring 12 points on the second attempt.
Combined with a good human shooter, team 1535 scored 36 points to combine for an 85-38 win.
Near, the end of the match the Robot’s hopper became jammed, slowing its ability to rotate.
The team came into the pit for emergency repairs, but was called to the next match with virtually no time to make a decent repair effort.
The final match of the day had “Holly” on the floor with a slipping drum but the drivers came out aggressively and eager to score.
A pair of scoring opportunities presented and the robot was able to get some sporadic rotation on the drum and made two partial scores, for a total of 10 points.
The human player added another 16 points to give the Knights a good portion of the alliance’s points but the alliance still lost this sixth match by a score of 60-54, their closest match yet.
This leaves the Sault team in 30th overall going into tomorrow’s last two round-robin matches.
The team is still confident that they will have one of the top 10 best scoring machines and hopes to add to the win column in tomorrow’s matches.
Competition continues today and will conclude with the playoff rounds from 1 p.m. to about 3 p.m.
