North Stars Win Big Nickel Tournament Opener

The Soo North Stars took until 00:42 of the five minute overtime tonight to defeat the Don Mills Flyers by a score of 3-2.

The score was tied at 0-0 after one period, the Stars went ahead 2-1 after two periods and then a 2-2 tie after three periods.

The Big Nickel Tournament has a five minute sudden victory overtime rule and if still tied, shootout is used to determine the winner.

Paul Orlando was in goal for the win.

Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Derek Battagin from Brandon Warmington at 1:39 of the second period.
2. Brian Nanne from Brandon Warmington at 1:15of the second period.
3. Jake Wright from Brandon Warmington at 00:42 of overtime.

Next action for the North Stars is Friday at 2:00 pm against the Kapuskasing Flyers.
