Soo Eagles move into first place
Brian Depp scored the only goal of the shootout and the Soo Eagles won their sixth straight game, a 5-4 overtime victory over the Blind River Beavers on Sunday afternoon at the Pullar Stadium.
The win improved the Eagles record to 10-2, good for 20 points and a share of first place with the Soo Thunderbirds in the West Division of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. The Eagles have two games in hand on the Thunderbirds, who have a 10-4 record.
Trailing 3-2 after two periods on Sunday, the Eagles rallied and went ahead 4-3 on goals by Ryan McAleese and Jacob Johnston before Blind River's Justin Erhart tied the game with a shorthanded marker with just over four minutes to play in regulation.
Justin Scott and Kyle Slicker scored earlier goals for the Eagles. Erhart with a pair, Kyle Paat and Brett Findlay also scored for Blind River.
Goalie Clayton Brown, making only his second start of the season, made 39 saves in the Eagles net, while Chandler Long stopped 32 pucks for Blind River.
