For those that were in attendance for both games, it was a surprising difference.

Less than 24 hours after defeating the New Liskeard Cubs 5-3 on Saturday night, the North Stars exploded for 10 goals in the final two periods to defeat the Cubs 13-3 on Sunday afternoon at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

“We’ve gotten through the major injury bugs and suspensions so today was the first time in the last three or four games that we’ve been able to dress basically a full lineup,” said North Stars coach Mike Hall. “When you have Brian Nanne and Brandon Warmington out of your lineup you take a lot of scoring away.”

“(Sunday) I thought we moved the puck extremely well,” said Hall. “There wasn’t much selfish play. That’s always nice to see when the score gets out of hand.”

On Sunday, Jake Wright and Davis Boyer each scored three goals while Brian Nanne and Brandon Warmington added a pair of goals each in the win. Matt Eddy, Connor Cassavia and Josh Hicks added single goals. Warmington, Grant Syrette, Justin Cooke and Kurtis Giommi each had a pair of assists in the win.

Bordy Silk scored all three goals for the Cubs in Sunday’s loss.

“In New Liskeard’s defense, they came down here a little shorthanded,” said Hall. “They only hand one affiliate up with them while they were here and they had a couple guys get hurt while they were here. You could see in the second period (Sunday) that they were starting to get gassed.”

Added New Liskeard coach John Zubyck: “It’s tough when you come up here. It was our third game in three nights and you’re playing a team that has a lot of offensive threats. We were playing with a short bench…I think we did a great job (Saturday) giving ourselves a chance (to win). We just ran out of gas here (Sunday) and the game opened right up.”

On Saturday, Jake Wright had a goal and two assists to pace the North Stars in the victory. Callup Robbie Charette added a goal and an assist while Matt Zalewski and Matt Eddy, into an empty net, completed the North Stars scoring. Aiden Wright assisted on three goals while Boyer set up a pair in the win. Spencer Wilson and Jonathan Langford each had a goal and an assist for New Liskeard while Mitchell McCrank also scored.

With the win, the North Stars improve their record to 12-1

The North Stars are back in action next weekend when they play a home-and-home series with the Nickel City Sons. The two teams meet in Chelmsford on Saturday afternoon before playing Sunday afternoon at the John Rhodes. Game time Sunday is 1 p.m.
