Kewadin Cares supports National Guard bringing the 1437th home for Christmas

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - Kewadin Cares is bringing the 1437th home for the holidays.

The busses will be pulling in to the Soo just before Christmas.

The National Guard 1437th multi-role Bridge Company Second Platoon left Nov. 20 for deployment to Iraq, and now the troops will get to see their loved ones once more before they ship out.

Kewadin Cares recently assisted the Michigan Army National Guard in the send off of the 1437th Engineering Battalion.

Kewadin’s hotel and convention center was the hub for families coming to the area to spend time with their loved ones before deployment.

The casino sent goodie bags with servicemen and servicewomen who left for Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

Many of the families celebrated the holidays before saying goodbye because they didn’t know if they’d be together for Christmas.

Kewadin is pleased to announce that the company will be home for Christmas, thanks to a donation of two Kewadin Casino motor coach busses.

The schedule has busses traveling from Fort McCoy to bring home all members of the 1437th on Dec. 22, just in time for Christmas.

The buses will take them back after the New Year on Jan. 2.

This timing is tentative on their schedule.

The Kewadin Cares program began in 2003 when the casino started partnering with local organizations to raise awareness of our Pledge of Allegiance and United States Armed Forces and veterans.

The program has since grown to include holiday giving programs, drinking and driving awareness campaigns and support of organizations like Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Kewadin Casinos has five locations in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and is owned and operated by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

The casinos have nearly 1,000 employees and have been in operation for over 20 years.
