Tony Martin to seek nomination for re-election
SAULT STE. MARIE - Tony Martin, who is currently serving in his sixth year as Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma will be seeking nomination for the next Federal election.
Tony, who currently serves as the NDP social policy critic and poverty critic, sits on the Human Resources and Skills Development Committee of Parliament.
He has fought hard for Northern Ontario communities on issues such as industry, poverty, infrastructure and jobs.
A nomination meeting will be held by the Sault Ste. Marie Federal NDP Riding Association Thursday, November 12 at 7 p.m. at the Sault Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Branch 25, 96 Great Northern Road.
Martin will be acting as host to Peter Stoffer, member of Parliament for Sackville - Eastern Shore, Nova Scotia, and honorary guest speaker at the event.
Stoffer, current NDP critic of veteran’s affairs, fisheries and oceans and amateur sport is well known throughout Canada for his efforts towards creating programs for new veterans.
Stoffer's latest legislation, Private Member Bill C-201, would allow members of the military and the RCMP to receive the full amounts of both CPP and the military or RCMP pension.
Stoffer is known throughout Parliament for his congenial attitude and is considered one of the most respected M.P.’s on the hill.
In 2009, Stoffer was acclaimed one of the Parliamentarians of the Year (most collegial) by Macleans Magazine.
He has also received the Green MP Award from the Sierra Legal Defence Fund and has been recognized by the Nova Scotia Wildlife Federation and the Department of the Environment.
While in Sault Ste. Marie, Stoffer will have the opportunity to visit the local Legion at 2 p.m where he will speak about his work on behalf of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP veterans.
