Local employment consultant recognized for top award
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (November 2, 2009) - Sault College community employment programs is proud to announce that one of its staff members has won the prestigious Ontario Association of Youth Employment Counselling Centres (OAYEC) Award of Merit for the Northern Region.
LeeAnn Blondeau, employment consultant for Job Connect in Blind River, a division of the community employment programs at Sault College, is the successful award winner.
Blondeau also worked in a marketing outreach position in Sault Ste. Marie and as a training consultant with the literacy and basic skills program.
As a consultant, Blondeau has surpassed her targets each year and was responsible for 45 percent of the entire East Algoma intake last year, including registering eight apprentices in small communities such as Elliot Lake, Blind River, Thessalon and Iron Bridge.
Blondeau’s efforts have had a huge impact on the training of skilled workers in East Algoma.
“We are proud of LeeAnn’s accomplishments and her commitment to our college and agency,” says Linda Ryan, director, community employment programs.
“We believe her performance excellence and personal development over the last 10 years is definitely worthy of an award of merit from OAYEC,” says Ryan.
OAYEC supports the work of local youth employment centres across Ontario and aims to help young people find and maintain meaningful employment that will help improve their quality of life.
Since 1988, the OAYEC and network of over 70 youth employment agencies have been committed to delivering accessible, high-quality, outcomes-based employment services to young people to assist them in reaching their employment and life goals.
Blondeau was honoured at the OAYEC Futures 2009 conference in Collingwood last weekend.
