NEWS RELEASE

SAULT AREA CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE

***************************
Sault Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Superior State University Political Science Club sponsor the 4th annual Meet the Candidate Forum

The Sault Area Chamber of Commerce along with the Lake Superior State University Political Science Club will be hosting a Meet the Candidate Forum on Monday, October 26.

The Political Science Club and Chamber of Commerce have been co-sponsoring candidate forums for the past four years.

The forums have provided the community with an opportunity to meet candidates running for local, state and national offices.

The forum will take place in the Lake Superior State University Walker Cisler Center - Crow’s Nest.

The 2009 Meet the Candidate Forum will focus on those running in the city election.

There are five candidates running for three positions on the Sault Ste. Marie City Commission.

All five candidates have confirmed their attendance at the event.

The candidates for commission seats are Ray Bauer, Marilyn Burton, Matthew Calder, Jay Gage and William Lynn.

Mayor Anthony Bosbous [shown] is also up for re-election and will be in attendance.

“With everything that is happening politically at all levels of government, it’s more important than ever for citizens to get to know those individuals running for elective office, said Leisa Mansfield, executive director Sault Area Chamber of Commerce. Meeting the candidates in person is the best way for an individual to understand the positions of all candidates and help voters feel confident about the choices they make when voting.”

The audience will be encouraged to submit written questions to the moderator who will then provide each candidate an opportunity to address the question.

Candidates will give brief opening and closing statements and have the chance to meet one-on-one with those in attendance.

Chippewa County has one millage proposal on the November 3 ballot.

Copies of the proposal language will be available at the forum as well.

The forum begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 26.

Parking is available in the visitor’s parking lot or in the lot behind the Cisler Center.

For more information, contact the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce at (906) 632-3301.
