Hard-rocking Ted Nugent, a frequent visitor to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, has been fired from his part-time job as a hard-ranting columnist with the Waco Tribune-Herald. It seems Nugent’s ultra-conservative opinions and aggressive writing style weren’t sitting well with the newspaper’s new owners.
They decreed that opinion pieces would henceforth need to be “thoughtful and civil.”
Efforts to temper Nugent’s submissions - they appeared with "Texas Wildman" beneath his byline - only culminated in his ouster.
It was left to the newspaper’s editor, Carlos Sanchez, to tell readers why Nugent’s contributions had come to an end.

Nugent's musical prowess first came to public notice from his guitar and vocal work with The Amboy Dukes (late 1960s and early 1970s).
He also founded the 1980s supergroup Damn Yankees and has had a notable solo career.
In 2005, Nugent told the National Rifle Association's national convention: "I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molesters dead. I want the bad guys dead. No court case. No parole. No early release. I want 'em dead. Get a gun and when they attack you, shoot 'em."
