Grand View Public School conquers robotics tournament

Grand View Hawks win Algoma Region FIRST Lego League tournament at Sault College

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (November 29, 2008) - In competition today at Sault College, the overall winner of the 2008 Algoma Regional FIRST Lego League tournament was Grand View Public School.

Championship awards were presented to the Grand View Hawks, Anna McCrea Robo Falcons, and the St. Ann Bulldog Battlebots, St. Ann Elementary.

These three teams now qualify to compete at the FIRST Lego League provincial tournament in Oakville on December 6.

“We had another fabulous tournament at Sault College and we thank the volunteers and especially the students who were involved. These teams showed creativity and ingenuity,” says Steve Burmaster, FLL Algoma region tournament co-ordinator. “This year’s event featured 17 teams consisting of 150 students from the Algoma region in competition.”

Special guests Mario Turco and Joe Maurice from the Algoma District School Board, Brian Curran, president and CEO of PUC Sault Ste. Marie, and Wayne Greco, president YMCA assisted today’s judges throughout the awards ceremony.
