With Halloween fast approaching…yikes…it’s tomorrow I still have to get out and buy my “treats”. I’ve clued in after all these years not to buy them earlier because I usually end up eating them before the big night. In the past, I’ve bought treats 3 times on average.
Ahhh…the life of an admitted chocoholic. I thought about stopping eating it all together then I remembered. I’m no quitter. So it’s not happening…….BUT….
And it’s a big BUT this year with all the scare about the flu and H1N1 virus, etc. This is a very good time to keep in mind that sugar is known to suppress the immune system. The immune response is noticeable after 2 hours but it may also stay suppressed for up to 5 hours…..not good when someone is trying to keep his or her immune system strong.
“If you really load up on sugar, say about 100 grams (20 teaspoons, it can reduce the ability of white blood cells to kill germs by up to 40 percent.” Says Dr. Sears in “Seventy Six Ways Sugar Can Ruin Your Health”
The amount of drinking 2 cans of pop or eating a sugary donut can lower your bodies ability to fight by up to 40% ….So you can see why limiting the sweets is critical at this time. So please parents really limit what you and your children eat …sweet wise, pop and juicy drink wise.
When the immune system is lowered you can more easily catch those germs and they get a better hold in your body and have their own little party. Then, your bad bacteria that has invaded you… it loves the sweets …in fact it multiplies like wild fire within your body.
Eat lots of raw fresh vegetables, plenty of greens, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Limit fruit too…because it converts easily to sugar too. Drink lots of water.
Your best defence is a strong immune system. There are many natural remedies that you can take to be healthy or at least have a stronger ability to fight it off and recover more quickly. Vitamins and minerals (gold star quality), vitamin C, Vitamin D3, cod liver oil, antioxidants, and probiotics...Talk to a qualified practitioner or registered nutritional consultant to determine how much and how often.
Listed are some good tips for flu prevention from St. John’s ambulance.

Stress can also suppress your immunity …so try not to worry….Breathe.
Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
