The City of Sault Ste. Marie will be holding an information session later this month for local sports leaders and clubs.

The goal of the session is to help groups learn about hosting local sports tournaments and championships in the community.

Details on the session are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, May 15
Time: 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: John Rhodes Community Centre, 260 Elizabeth Street. Level 2 classroom

The session will also help attendees learn how to access funding from the Tourism Development Fund, and Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, meet with staff, and discuss how to elevate athlete stays, bid development, and host championships that shine the spotlight on the community.

In 2023, the Tourism Development Fund supported 25 events with a total of $308,330 and partnered with local groups to host tournaments such as the Northeast Regional Ringette Tournament, the Ontario Youth Nordic Ski Championships, and the Ontario Baseball Championships.
