Downtown fire scene declared ‘severe collapse hazard’

No word when that part of Queen Street will re-open

Sault Ste. Marie's Downtown Association is advising its members that the former Silly Rabbit Vape Shop location at 647 Queen Street East is in "severe" danger of collapse after this morning's fire.

That part of Queen Street will remain closed until safety is assured.

"Emergency services have blocked off the section of Queen Street from East to Brock, as the location has been officially designated a severe collapse hazard and the area surrounding it a collapse zone," the association said in an email sent to its members this afternoon.

"Please be advised and take extreme caution when approaching the area," the email warns.

"Currently, there is no word on when the street will be reopened."

SooToday will post other details as they are released.
