Sault College celebrates academic success at annual event

Almost $400,000 in financial support was distributed to more than 500 students during the 51st annual Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards Night

Sault College students, supporters, staff and community members came together on Tuesday to celebrate the academic achievements of students during the 51st annual Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards (SBA) night.

Throughout the event, almost $400,000 in financial support was distributed to more than 500 students. 

"The SBA event commemorates the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of our students, alongside the vital support we continue to receive from our donors," said David Orazietti, President, Sault College in a news release issued today. “This event is not just a celebration of achievements; it is a testament to the strong community that supports our learners and our college. On behalf of Sault College, I extend sincere congratulations to each student for their commitment and determination, and gratitude to our donors for their invaluable support and generosity."

During the 2023/24 academic year, more than $2 million will be distributed to more than 2000 students through SBA and other various bursary programs.

Last evening, Sault College students, supporters, staff, and community members joined together to celebrate and honour the outstanding academic achievements of our students at the 51st annual Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards (SBA) night. Throughout the evening, almost $400,000 in financial support was distributed to more than 500 students celebrating academic excellence and recognizing the amazing support of our donors.

During the 2023/24 academic year, more than $2 million will be distributed to more than 2000 students through SBA and other various bursary programs.

This year, Alexia Oliveira, a graduate of the Esthetician program, was awarded the Governor General’s Academic Medal. Since 1873, Governor Generals of Canada have sponsored this medal to encourage and recognize excellent academics at various levels of the educational system. It is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest academic standing in the College, in the final year of a two-year program.

Each year, the generosity of donors who support Sault College students continues to grow. This year, several new awards have been established, each offering significant benefits to students. These include:

  • Dr. Ron Common Scholarship
  • Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation
  • Strong Minds Award – Healthy Mind, Healthy Life
  • Suzanne Dunn Memorial Award
  • The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary Program
  • The TerryRose Award
  • Toromont Cat Achievement Award
  • Toromont Cat Leadership Award
  • Toromont Cat Safety Award
