A man wanted since September for debit card theft was arrested yesterday at a downtown business, where he was allegedly uttering threats at security staff.
The investigation dates back to Sept. 10, 2023, when Sault Police were told someone stole a debit card from a vehicle on Gibbs Street and then fraudulently used it at three separate businesses.
Police later identified a suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The suspect managed to elude police for six months — until Monday, when someone phoned 911 to report a threatening person at a business in the 200 block of Bay Street.
Norman Shaganash, 26, is charged with:
- Uttering Threats x2
- Theft Under $5,000
- Theft of Credit Card
- Use of Credit Card x6
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order x3
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on May 27.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Shaganash is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
