Teenager charged after cap gun fired at people downtown

Sault Police say 15-year-old charged with mischief as well as weapons offences

Police say a teenager has been charged after allegedly firing a cap gun at people downtown yesterday afternoon.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said at around 2:30 p.m., officers on patrol responded to a report of a youth pointing and firing a cap gun at people in the 200 block of Bay Street.

Police located and arrested the youth, according to a news release. The cap gun was located nearby, police said.

The 15-year-old has been charged with mischief, using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police said the teen was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The youth's name cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
