Parents in Desbarats and St. Joseph Island are being warned about a “suspicious” red truck spotted near schools in the area.

At least one parent reported that the driver “attempted to coax their children into the truck,” according to a public alert issued today by the principal of St. Joseph Island Central School.

“Please be advised that we have received reports from concerned parents about a suspicious vehicle in the Desbarats and St. Joseph Island areas,” the alert reads. “An unfamiliar red truck has been seen, and parents have reported that the driver was watching their children. One parent reported that the driver attempted to coax their children into the truck. School staff have been made aware, and the OPP have been notified about the situation.”

The school says it will provide “increased safety reminders to students during morning announcements about not talking to strangers and to immediately report suspicious incidents to an adult.”

“We appreciate families also having similar conversations with their children,” the alert continues. “Student safety and well-being are always our priority and are a collective responsibility.”
